3 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

We received our I-800 approval in the mail on May 9, and then received the NVC letter by email on the 16th. Our article 5 will be ready for pick-up one week from today, and our visa applications will be hand delivered by a courier tomorrow.

Sadly, our agency told us that we cannot send a care package to Xiao Wei. They do not send packages to children that are under 2 years old. We wanted to send a baby photo book to her with all of our pictures in it. We were hoping that on gotcha day, when she is handed over to us, she would recognize us from the photos, and that this would make the transition a little easier for her. Unfortunately, this is not possible for us.

On another note, from what we have been told, our little girl has been in foster care since she was found abandoned at 3 months of age. We hope that she will remain with her foster family until the day we are in Nanning to get her, and that she will not be transferred to an orphanage beforehand, as I’ve heard that some children are. One transition will be hard enough on her.

I sent an email last night to Karolyn at our agency, asking for this information.  She responded that she didn’t know, but would forward our questions to their staff in Beijing. Hope to hear back soon.

Please keep our baby girl in your prayers. We can’t wait to bring her home!
